2014 Boston Marathon

I've been working at the Our Marathon: The Boston Bombing Digital Archive since last September. The project has meant a lot to me, it has connected me with my new home in Boston. As the community aspect of our project winds down it was great to bring in a week's worth of very successful "Share Your Story" events and cap it all off with Marathon Monday. This was my first time seeing the Boston Marathon. Here are some pictures I took in Brookline.

Grandma's closet

These are just a few of the absolutely amazing outfits I discovered in my grandmother's closet. Through old photographs and my father's tales I knew she always had a keen fashion sense but it wasn't until I was able to dive into her closet this past summer did I realise the gold mine of spectacular costumes I've inherited. She was always dedicated to her clothes and filled three giant closets and a spare room in the house with her decade spanning wardrobe. Sadly most it was lost but what me and my mother saved from the dump will be used in my photography for a long time to come. We still have enough outfits to throw a costume party where we fill her four story house to the brink and provide the costumes for all the guests.

Renegade Graveyard Shooting

We did this shoot incredibly fast in hopes of not alarming or offending any tourists and the fine people of Boston. Not having a car in the city, we took the subway over to the North End. My beautiful friend, and model, didn't want to draw too much attention during rush hour on public transport, so we ended up changing costumes in the corner of the graveyard. We tried to do it quickly, and as low-key as possible, because, from what I can tell, Bostonians take their historical sites seriously, and we didn't need any fines for God knows what. I've learned that police like to fine you for all sorts of things, especially in a town that still has the blue laws intact.
